Testing is free for everyone in 2 states (New York and West Virginia), free if you qualify in 12 more states, and cheaper in 5 states and Washington, DC.

This covers help with the test fee for first attempts, for the GED or the HiSET. Almost every state also offers a discounted retake, so that alone is not counted. Programs that run “while funding lasts” can end without notice.
